A story about a dreamy little girl obsessed my mind. She too was sitting under her weeping willow tree writing passionately and I wondered about what! She was a brokenhearted little girl called Sadie Sugarspear and she was searching for a mysterious King to bring her father home. Scenes of the book would visually take me over and I could think of nothing else until it was fully written. I left my life in NYC and stowed myself away in a flat in Southern England to “get the book out.” Several months later, a 3600 page hand written manuscript was birthed.
The tranquility, isolation and insanely beauteous cliffs, moors, crashing steel blue sea and hidden pathways through the violet woods of Devon infused me to write 18 hour days in a continuous unbreakable flow. The long walks in-between helped burst pages fourth from alas undamned waters. That wild mysterious manuscript took up the three suitcases I brought back to NYC.
I edited (with my amazing editor Chiwan Choi) the towering 3600 pages into 26 novellas. I got them published by James Frey’s digital publishing company, Full Fathom Five. The novellas were given back to me to further edit with many notes, and at this very same time my newborn son was born! My baby nestled and nursed upon on my lap whilst I edited all 26 books on deadlines! Don’t ask me how I got through it but I surely did! All the dreams at once!
I believe this story will inspire both children and adults to go after their dreams no matter from where they have come. And no matter how long it might take!
As well as The Sugarspear Chronicles, I have written a noir novel called Gigi's Room, some scripts based on the books and am at work on more books and screenplays.
